Museum Visit Essay People throughout the world are blessed with the gift of art. We all ponder how it is accomplished and achieved, but in the end it all comes down to the remarkable artists that craft each work of art. Even though areas in the world house a substantial amount over others, there are still a number of cities that possess a great deal of art. Lucky for us, we live in a metropolitan area, and have a great art museum. In addition to that, it has plenty of it for everyone to admire and observe. The St. Louis art museum is a wonderful gallery of art to wander through. With exhibitions like Monet’s â€Å"Water Lilies†, the everyday person gets to get a glimpse of the world around them that have not seen before with their own eyes. I love the St. Louis Art Museum. Even though I have lived here my whole life, I just never got around to going there. Although this has been my first visit to Art Museum, I know I will definitely go back. Once I walked in through the front doors, I was amazed. The overall size surprised me. I was actually expecting it to be small, but lucky for us, it is not. Then when I reached the third floor, I was in awe because I got to see work from the 20th century. Also it was a great feeling to see the paintings I had studied in class, and then see them in person. As I walked from room to room, and floor-to-floor I could not get enough: until the museum closed down for the night, and I was told to leave. In spite of that, I downright enjoyed myself. I forgot that I was there for a school assignment. The artwork there ranged from weapons, furniture pieces, sculptures, and paintings. It is refreshing to see something new from turn you take. Also, to see the timeline of art pass right by you as you go through the whole museum. I have chosen â€Å"Stairway to Auvers† by Vincent Van Gogh in the Post-Impressionism Era and was made around 1890, and â€Å"Red, Orange, Orange on Red† by Mark Rothko is Op Art and was made in 1955. A poem was written for â€Å"Red, Orange† by Mike Murawski, and it reads, â€Å"Hey, look out red! Move over, watch it! Scrumpf, smush, push, punch, let me through! I need some air, a breath, anything but red! Makin’ me feel like I’m struggling for the surface of the orange dark depth†(1).. The paintings both have some similarities, but many differences. Though â€Å"Stairway to Auvers† has some subject matter, objects, and people to pick out, â€Å"Red, Orange, Orange on Red† does not: depending on the artist’s intent for the painting. â€Å"Red, Orange† you can make out slightly different colored orange and red rectangles. Though both paintings are very close in time period, they do have many differences. But every bit and each piece contributes to the changes in art throughout the years, and that is truly the only thing that matters. Twilight Sounds† by Norman Lewis is an abstract expressionist painting that expresses the sound from the jazz era, and you can even make out some music notes. â€Å"In Beige with Sand† by Robert Motherwell shows how abstract art is really done by using very few colors but accomplishing many things with the way he makes random shapes. â€Å"Boxcars, Minneapolis #2† by Ralston Crawford is a vague painting depicting many boxes that may symbolize a car in a city. â€Å"Bethlehem† by Franz Kline shows a black cross with many lines passing through it on a white canvas. This might symbolize the cross being Jesus, and the black and white meaning his birth. â€Å"Catalonia† by Robert Motherwell has mainly circles and lines, but may represent the separation of the city because of the lines separating the circles from each other. â€Å"Draft† by Helen Frankenthaler depicts only a few colors but to me looks to be a sky of some sort. â€Å"Ici† by Joan Mitchell seems to have a shape of animals or faces in the blotches of paint. â€Å"Helena’s Australia† by Sigmar Polke shows an orange dark night with a few stars out almost from the perspective from a bush. January, December, November† by Gerhard Ritcher seems to be a window and the colors go down according to the season or month, changing and conforming to one. â€Å"The Plaza After Rain† by Paul Cornoyer is an amazing painting taken in a large city. The center part of the painting is three people walking through the street while it is raining while car on the road pass them by. â€Å"Road at the Palisades† by Ernest Lawson is a flat view of a river or lake in New York that subject matter is a road connecting to a bridge. Maybe this was the artist’s road to home. Street of the Great Captain, Corodoba by Childe Hassam seems to make out a small plaza in a Hispanic originated area that shows off great lighting and bright colors. â€Å"Windham Village† by Julian Alden Weir depicts an alleyway to a neighborhood and it looks to be in fall because the trees do not have any leaves. Also the neighborhood appears to be decollate because the way the homes are portrayed. Art museums are a great contribution to society. They allow you, me, and everyone else to gaze upon the art that was created for us to look at. The art that was created to keep the world of art going. Though some pieces of art may look the same, odd, different, have no subject to it, or just even look plain, it still has a place in the world to prove to everyone how our art has grown and what it has become. Without any art museums showing us what we have grown up to know, we would not believe it or maybe just not care. Now that I have been through the St. Louis art museum, I have a great deal of understanding for art, and that will stick with me no matter where I am.

Katie Lanie transferred to Seton Catholic high school during our junior year. Katie’s reason for leaving Carl Isle high school centered around one shadowy statement, â€Å"No one in that school understood me.† Katie said this to me almost every day and I produced only mixed reactions to her claim. I thought it would take more than a few short years of high school to completely understand a person. And frankly, not everyone cares about another’s problems, especially high school kids—most of them care about themselves and their status only. Sadly, I admit I fell into this group and didn’t get out until I found my appreciation for Katie. Throughout the year I kept Katie’s words in mind and they started to make sense.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Seton Catholic was a small high school, so it wasn’t too long before everyone knew â€Å"Crazy Lanie†. That’s the nickname the boys at school gave her. Katie’s physical appearance and loud-mouth intimidated the young Catholic school boys, but her oblivious attitude caused her to be unaware of this. Katie was very opinionated and spoke out in class on a daily basis. These habits were annoying when you were trying to learn, but they came in handy in our Economics class. There was one word that every Seton Catholic student used to describe the Economics teacher—torture. Then Katie came and turned that class around. Her first love is talking, then politics and current issues. So she talked up a storm in class, eventually strayed away from the subject at hand, and turned our class into a current issues debate team. A lot of us appreciated Katie’s unintentional deeds and some didn’t. One guy in particular who didn’ t take pleasure in Katie’s existence was Mike Reckliss. Mike was an on the edge type of guy who only cared about his motorcycle and class—that’s where he got most of his shut-eye. Katie, Mike, and I had Business Law together every day after lunch. By the time we got to class, Mike’s stomach was full and he was ready for his afternoon nap. But with Katie there, baby Mikey was a crabby pants. On one particular day, we were discussing a person’s rights to property. Our teacher explained that his neighbor’s tree branches were hanging over onto his property, so technically he was entitled to cut down the branches that extended beyond the property line. Before our teacher could finish his story about property, the light in Katie’s head turned on.

The first big customer of HP was Walt Disney Studios. The company purchased eight oscillators from HP for their movie Fantasia. These oscillators were purchased in order to develop an innovative sound system for the movie. HP has incorporated profit sharing and social commitment in the company through its values and corporate objectives that have been with the company since 1957, these principles guide them to be focused and committed to the company and were founded by the co founders and are being followed to this day. Through trust, team work, innovation and integrity the company has been successful in making enough profits to finance their growth as well as keep all the stakeholders satisfied. They respect customer loyalty and the role of employees and there fore their contribution in the company. They look for opportunities and grow but not at the stake of society, they serve as an asset to the society and country where ever they are doing business. Dave Packard used a management technique that was incorporated into HP’s corporate culture. He called it â€Å"managing by walking around† which later came to be known as â€Å"management by Objectives† which had employee involvement, recognition and communication for better management and achievement of organizational goals. The company went public in the year 1957 and Bill and Dave have always given respect and appreciation for the employee’s efforts. Therefore after going public they gave the stock grants to the employees automatically who have been serving for at least six months in the company. This meant that the employees were given shares of the company, which will give them some form of ownership in the company and motivate them more for the performance and growth. The first acquisition of the company took place in the year 1958 of a high quality graphic producer company. The name of the company was F.L. Moseley Company of Pasadena, California. This acquisition was not seen as a threat to its flexibility because this gave opportunity to HP to enter into plotters market which was a needed for the company’s printer business. And to counter the problem of growing business the company had practiced decentralization of business divisions which will be responsible for their own products. Bill was looking for opportunities internationally for Hp to enter foreign markets and he found some in Europe after the Treaty of Rome and also the European Common market in the year 1957. These paved way for starting operation of Hp in the European markets and as Bill visited Europe he found it a viable decision and the company became global in the year 1959. The first joint venture of the company was in Asia with a Japanese company named Yokogawa Hewlett-Packard (YHP) in the year 1963. The CEO identified the factors that lead to major acquisitions by HP till the year 2005. HP was performing well in the industry. Its revenue and profits were rising and which made it attractive for the investor’s point of view as the company’s stock value also rose. The company was able to achieve cost control and pay bonuses to the employees at the same time. The company had a strong financial position with an impressive figure of $6.8 billion as an increase in revenue growth. The company wanted to achieve cost competitiveness. The company made some changes in the number of workers and their retirement programmes. The company consists of a team of dedicated workforce which is willing to put in their maximum efforts to enhance the value and performance. Moreover the company wanted to evolve in the bigger markets. The company had cash and potential to prosper in sales, they had no burden of operational debt. They have a strong customer base with a brand loyalty from them. All these led to the successful acquisitions of the company. The merger and acquisitions that took place between HP and other companies around the globe made HP a much stronger company in terms of market share as well as sales growth and innovation and created value for the company. The deal with Compaq was seen as an opportunity to grow into the IT sector in the world.   One of the long term goals of the company is to become the world’s largest computer company. All these mergers and takeovers were taken in order to reduce the competition, increase market share, share expertise which can be used to produce further products. The deal between Compaq and HP was seen as a success in the industry after five years of the deal. Compaq was its strong competitive at the same time one of the largest PC makers. The two companies by integrating have took forward the company’s profits and sales to another level altogether. The merger took place at the right time when both the companies were lacking the production of key products. But after the deal both the companies were able to fill in the gap that they had while operating independently. They were committed to the infrastructure software which helped the company go into the management layer from the commodity hardware. The company was at a stronger position to compete with the global service providers. The deal was able to increase the revenue and profits for the company being in the competitive environment of the industry.

As a conflict analysis and resolution major, I took this class because I wanted to learn why interpersonal communication is such a key component of every conflict. Although conflicts are placed into levels—international, community/organization, and interpersonal—all of the conflicts are ultimately between two parties with grievances. Difference Between Buddhism And Jainism On Karma †¢ Buddhism : Buddhism believes in the universality of Karma, which is a result of one’s action. †¢ Jainism : Jainism also believes in the universality of karma and its effect on human beings. But, unlike Buddhism, karma, according to Jainism, is not a mere effect of one’s actions, but a real substance that flows into each individual body or jiva. This karmic substance remains with a being until good conduct and self purification eliminates them. On Soul †¢ Buddhism : According to Buddhism, soul is an individuality that does exist in plants and animals, but not in non-living or inanimate things. †¢ Jainism : According to Jainism, soul is present in every animate and inanimate object of the universe including its elements – earth, water, wind, fire and air. On The Status And Evolution of Individual Beings Buddhism : After Nirvana, there is no soul, but the individuality of an individual that passes into nothingness, which is beyond any description and speculation. †¢ Jainism : After Nirvana, the soul continues to remain as an individual soul, but in the highest state of purity and enlightenment. †¢ Survival And Disappearence : Over a period of time, while Buddhism disappeared from the Indian soil, Jainism survived in India, with its teachings intact, mostly untouched by the overwhelming philosophy and practices of Hinduism, at the same time imparting to the later some of its noblest ideas. Besides, a major difference lies in the dominions of both the religions. Though both, Buddhism and Jainism, originated and developed individually in the same geographical area of India, but difference lies in their spread. While Buddhism crossed the frontiers of its motherland and went to other parts of the Indian subcontinent, Central Asia, far eastern countries, and parts of North America and Europe as well, whereas Jainism, on the other hand, remained confined to India, the land of its origin.
